POKER TOURNAMENT PAYS MILLIONS IN SWAZILAND

Young guns, rookies and overnight sensations were the feature of the Sixth All Africa Poker Tournament hosted at the Orion Piggs Peak Hotel and Casino, in Swaziland on Friday 18th August and Saturday 19th August 2006, with a total prize pool of R2, 460,000.

The tournament offered 90 players a shot at the One Million Rand and highly coveted All Africa Poker Crown. With the first 50 places paid, the entrants were all on a quest for a slice of the handsome prize pool. The event was filmed and will be broadcast on DSTV Channel 121.

The two day event was a mix of skill, unanticipated bluffing and rookie luck. The atmosphere was electric and the tournament was a great success once again. A host of Piggs Peak sponsored players and their supporters recently returned from the World Series in Las Vegas in July 2006, and greatly added to the atmosphere and level of play. The title came down to two newcomers, Ivan Dadic and Nicholas Katsapas who battled it out for over two hours, with Katsapas walking away with the Million Rand and the title of All Africa Poker Champion. Dadic was consoled with R310, 000 second place prize money.

The tournament attracted more female entrants than ever before and Janine Claassens was the top lad finisher, placing 42nd and winning R5, 000.Tournament organizers announced that the next All Africa Poker Tournament will be held from 3rd November – 5th 2006.
